Eagles Triumphant Over Yellowjackets, 24-7

Rogalski Goes Over 3,000 Yards; 226 Yards From Record

Wetzel Chronicle

The Eagles' Gage Rohde scored two touchdowns and teammate Drew Keller pranced around Alumni Field for 117 yards on 19 carries Aug. 31 in prevailing 24-7 over the Williamstown Yellowjackets at Magnolia's Alumni Field. Tanner Hanna hooked up with Stephen Rogalski 10 times for 169 yards.

Rogalski's 10 snatches gave him over 3,000 yards for his career, becoming only the second Blue Eagle to do so. He now stands three catches and 226 yards away from passing the great Kenny Fisher as the top Blue Eagle receiver in receptions and yardage in school history.

Williamstown's potent offense didn't materialize in the first half, as the Big Blue defense held them to no first downs until late in the second period. Hanna completed passes to Grant Cain and Rogalski that set up 31-yard and four-yard TD runs by Rohde, in the opening period to grab a 14-0 lead.

In the second period, Keller rushed for 26 yards and tacked on 34 more yards before the Yellowjacket defense held and forced the Eagles to kick a 20-yard field goal. It was foreign exchange student Clemens Raitmayr's first field goal try ever, and he didn't let down the Blue Eagle faithful at all, splitting the uprights for a 17-0 Magnolia half time lead.

Before coming to Magnolia, Raitmayr never kicked a football, but had no problem adding three extra point kicks to go along with his field goal.

The Eagles had their moments in the third period, but didn't dent the scoreboard, while the Yellowjackets tallied their only points of the game on a long 63-yard TD run.

Magnolia's Andrew Smith recovered a muffed Yellowjacket punt deep in 'Jacket territory, but would cough it up in the endzone after reaching the two yard line, with Williamstown recovering the slippery pigskin in the endzone.

In the fourth period, Hanna teamed with Gage Deem on a third and long opportunity to keep the chains moving, before Hanna and Rogalski converted a 56-yard pitch and catch that set up a Hanna six-yard TD scamper with four minutes remaining in the game and putting victory out of reach for the visitors.

Keller paced the Eagle ground game with his second straight 100-yard game with 117 yards on 19 carries. Rohde found the endzone twice and accumulated 40 yards, while Hanna tacked on eight yards and a score on five carries. Rogalski ran twice for 11 yards, while hauling in 10 passes for 170 yards. Cain and Keller each caught two Hanna passes of 17 yards each, while Deem hauled in three passes for 28 yards. Freshman Jared Kacor caught one pass for seven yards.

The Blue Eagles moved the chains 18 times, while the Yellowjackets moved them 11 times. Magnolia caught a flag six times for 43 lost yards, while the 'Jackets saw the flag thrown three times for 20 lost yards.

The Blue Eagles will host Tyler Consolidated Friday at 7:30 p.m.
