Madonna scored 21 first-quarter points and never looked back in blanking the Valley Lumberjacks, 49-0 Saturday, Aug. 26, in Weirton.
The Madonna lead grew to 36-0 before the half, despite a solid running game by the 'Jacks' Spencer Mason, who finished the game with a career-high 105 yards.
The Lumberjacks played without Head Coach Tom West who was sidelined with an illness. Early in the game, Valley also lost the services of Wesley Dulaney with concussion-like symptoms and had to put in younger, less seasoned personnel.
"We had to put some inexperience players in early, but they did well. I was encouraged by their play," said Assistant Football Coach Jim West.
Besides Mason with 105 yards, freshman Trey Streets responded with 17 yards rushing, while Tristen Kocher connected on 2-10 passes for 19 yards for the Lumberjacks.
Defensively, freshman Liam Midcap and sophomore Hayden Lancaster each made 10 tackles, while Kocher kidnapped a Madonna pass.
Valley will be back on the road Friday night at Cameron to take on the Dragons at 7:30 p.m.
