August 1, 2012
Wetzel Chronicle

All West Virginia University alumni and friends are invited to participate in the 2012 Gold & Blue Golf Tournament which will be held at the Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa on July 27. A shotgun start by the Mountaineer will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The tournament, hosted by the WVU Alumni Association, is open to the first 120 golfers who register at a cost of $150 per golfer. The cost includes greens fees, cart, lunch, door prizes, and a post-tournament dinner reception.

Lakeview will offer a special Gold & Blue weekend room rate and discounts on other amenities on site. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund, which provides more than 400 scholarships to deserving WVU students.

The weekend's special guest will be former WVU quarterback, All American, and College Football Hall of Famer Major Harris.

In addition to the tournament on Friday, sponsors of the event will enjoy a special sponsors' reception from 6-8 p.m. in the Chestnut Ridge Ballroom.

To register, visit alumni.wvu.edu and download a registration form or contact Gregg Cave at 304-293-4731.

Alumni and friends can also participate in the online Gold & Blue Auction which features signed sports and entertainment memorabilia from country musician Brad Paisley and sports legends Chuck Howley, Avon Cobourne, Hot Rod Hundley, Nick Saban, Don Nehlen, and others.

Some of the hottest items this year include a "South Park Brad Paisley" print autographed by Brad, an autographed WVU mini helmet signed by Dallas Cowboy Ring of Honor and Super Bowl MVP Chuck Howley, and autographed 700 Wins Program, press guide, and West Virginia basket, all signed by WVU basketball Head Coach Bob Huggins.

Bids on these fantastic items will be accepted now through Aug. 3, ending at 9 p.m. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund, which for 75 years has funded scholarships for more than 4,000 students to attend WVU. A contributing source of funding to the WVU Scholars Program, the LPEF is funded completely by private donations.
