The Florentine Arts Center on Main Street in New Martinsville will present the artwork of Paden City Artist Jacob L. Bucy from 7-9 p.m. on July 6.
Bucy's variety of works, including some never exhibited before, are sure to spark intrigue with his combinations of colors, textures, and themes. The artist's approach to painting is clearing his mind and going where his subconscious takes him.
Noting that things in nature strongly affect his art, Bucy states, "I often get inspired by the things in the world that others take for granted, from cracks in sidewalks to flowing water."
“Time Out Of Mind 2010” is Jacob L. Bucy’s rendition of a bird, painted two years ago.
Bucy has had a strong interest in art since his youth. He started painting as a high school student and studied art while attending Concord College in Athens, W.Va. Many artists influence his work, including Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, and Mark Rothko.
Bucy is currently in the "Best of West Virginia" juried show for the second year in a row. He was also juried into "Crosscurrents" at Oglebay Institute's Stifel Fine Arts Center in Wheeling. In March of this year, he was in the Monroe Artists' annual juried exhibition in Woodsfield.
In January of this year he was cited at the "Emerging Artists" show at Tamarack in Beckley.
Bucy is a member of ArtsLink, Inc., as well as the Monroe Artists. His work can be seen throughout the state. Locally, his works are displayed at The Bookstore in New Martinsville, Tam's Gifts and Collectibles, and Tamarack in Beckley.
