The American Lung Association in West Virginia will host the Fight for Air Walk on June 16 in Charleston. The walk takes place along Sunrise Carriage Trail, starting just beyond the end of the South Side Bridge and below Bridge Road in Charleston. The walk begins promptly at 4 p.m.
This walk brings families, friends, and the community together to raise awareness of the 35 million Americans suffering from lung disease, including asthma, lung cancer, and COPD.
When you join the American Lung Association in the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air, you help save lives today and keep America healthy tomorrow. By walking for the people you love, you help in the fight against the dangers of secondhand smoke and unhealthy air. All registered participants will receive a t-shirt created by a local artisan. Registration is $25. This year's Fight for Air Walk goal is to raise over $10,000.
This will be a unique walk, as it will take place during the city's 10-day arts festival, FestivALL 2012. The beautiful, .65 mile Sunrise Carriage Trail will have visual art and artisans stationed along the trail playing acoustic instruments or performing brief one-act plays. Parking is available in Downtown Charleston at multiple lots and garages. Park downtown and walk across the South Side Bridge to access the lower end of the Sunrise Carriage Trail.
Participants are invited to register from all over the Charleston area and surrounding counties. Many of the walkers choose to join together in teams, united by the suffering of family and friends affected by lung disease, lung cancer, or asthma. Sponsors for this year's walk include FestivALL 2012 and Suddenlink. For more information, or to register for the walk, visit www.lunginfo.org/charlestonwalk.
