Eight To Lead MHS Graduation

Magnolia High School will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2012 Friday evening at 8 p.m. on the football field, weather permitting.

This year's class includes six valedictorians: Courtney Babe, Hannah Boughner, William Jansen Feeney, Mitchell Goodwin, Alec Hinerman, and Caleb Seckman. There are two salutatorians this year: Bethany Jean Ingold and Tyler R. Myers.

Courtney Babe is the daughter of Eric and Rhonda Babe. She is president of the student council, corresponding secretary of the National Honor Society, treasurer of the Science National Honor Society, a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the OVAC All American Team. Courtney is a Presidential Scholar at WVU, a PPG Merit Scholar, and a recipient of the Promise Scholarship.

Courtney will major in Biology at West Virginia University's Honors College; she plans on continuing to medical school.

Hannah Boughner is the daughter of John and Cindy Boughner. She is vice president of the student council and field commander of the marching band.

Hannah is also secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of Mu Alpha Theta, and a member of the Science National Honor Society as well as the OVAC All Academic Team. She is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, the Mountaineer Scholarship, and the EQT Student of Excellence Scholarship.

Hannah plans on attending the Honors College at West Virginia University where she will major in Pre-Pharmacy.

William Jansen Feeney is the son of Chris and Sherry Bachman and Jim Feeney Jr. He is a member of the student council, OVAC varsity board, track, cross country, band, Technology Student Association, West Virginia Mountaineer Boys State, yearbook, and choir. William is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and the Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta).

Other honors include the Principal's List, Wendy's Heisman Award, Rotary Student of the Month, two-time All-State Cross Country team member, a member of the 2011 All-State Boy's Track Team, and Academic Letterman. He is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, WVU Shenandoah Scholarship, Burger King Scholarship, and Tournament of Bands Scholarship. He is a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

Upon graduation, William will attend West Virginia University where he will major in Forensic Science.

Mitchell Goodwin, son of Cindy and Frank Aliff, is co-captain of the soccer team and vice president of the Science National Honor Society. He is also a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the OVAC All-Academic Team, the National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, and Tri-County Young Life.

Mitchell lettered in academics, is a Discus Award Winner, and a recipient of a Harvard Book Prize.

He is a PPG Merit Scholar, a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, and the WVU Presidential Scholarship; he also attends Proctor Christian Church.

Upon graduation, Mitchell will attend the Honors College of West Virginia University where he will major in Pre-Pharmacy.

Alec Hinerman is the son of Richard and Sandy Hinerman. Alec is class treasurer as well as a member of track and cross-country; he is the president of the National Honor Society and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the Science National Honor Society. Alec is a member of the 2011 state track team, All-State cross country, All-OVAC cross country, and the OVAC All Academic Team.

He is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship as well as the WVU Berry Scholarship.

Alec is a member of the New Martinsville First Christian Church, and he plans on attending WVU where he will major in Petroleum Engineering.

Caleb Seckman, the son of Chad and Elizabeth Seckman, is the president of Mu Alpha Theta, the Science National Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. He is also the captain of the football and bowl teams, and he is a member of student council and track.

Caleb's honors include being Rotary Student of the Month, HOBY ambassador, a 2011 American Math Competition School, 2012 Math

Field Day winner, and a 2010 state champion in football. Caleb is also an academic letterman who scored a 34 composite on the ACT.

He is a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

Caleb is enrolled in WVU Honors College where he will major in Psychology. He has plans of afterwards continuing on to law school.

Bethany Jean Ingold of New Martinsville is the daughter of Tabitha and Joseph Ingold. She is a member of the Science National Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. Bethany plans to attend Brigham Young University Idaho, where she will major in Math Education.

Tyler R. Myers is the son of C.J. and Holly Myers. His school activities include golf and basketball, and he is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the All OVAC Academic Team. He is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, Rotary Scholarship, and the WVU Shenandoah Scholarship.

Tyler is also a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church. His future plans include attending WVU where he will major in Biology and then pursue dental school.
