Baseball enthusiasts will be happy to know the Cincinnati Reds Legends Youth Baseball Camp is coming to the area June 18-20, with former Big Red Machine Pitcher Norm Charlton and the Reds' official mascots, Big Red and Gapper.
The camp is a non-profit event and 2012 revenues will be donated to the Larry Jones Feed the Children Program that the camp has donated over $32,000 in the past few years.
Other Big Reds stars appearing at the youth camp are: Don Gullett, Tony Perez, Norm Charlton, Ryan Freel, Bret Boone, and Dave Parker lead the list of former Big Red Machine players that will be on hand to help during the clinic. Other former Red stars that may be on hand could include, Sean Casey, Barry Larkin, Rob Dibble, Tom Seaver, Joe Morgan, Chris Sabo, Randy Myers, and Pokey Reece.
The camp is open to kids five to 19 years of age who register by June 13 with a fee of $125. All campers who register before June 16 will receive an autographed Cincinnati Reds Legends commemorative baseball card that will be autographed by all the Cincinnati Reds in attendance. Registration deadline is June 13.
The Legends Camp will be held at the VFW Baseball Field at 322 Pike St. in Marietta. To register for the camp, call 740-373-3476.
Organizers and area kids who have attended previous camps are hoping to improve on the number of youths attending this year's camp.
This is a pitching, hitting, and fielding instructional camp from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Meals and refreshments will be provided daily.
