The Magnolia Blue Eagles Baseball Team pounded out 14 hits and scored 12 runs May 10 as they finished off a two-game sweep, defeating the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights 12-1 in game two at Kidwell.
After neither team scored a run in the first inning, Magnolia seniors Bentley Knight and Jason Keller had back-to-back singles and both came around to score on a Grant Cain double.
Cain then scored when Drew Keller grounded out to second for a sacrifice for the first out of the inning.
Ryan Walton followed that up with a triple and scored when Chandler Sapp singled. Sapp later scored when Kyle Elliot tripled and Elliot later scored when Zach Wilhoite doubled.
Tanner Hanna grounded out to short and Knight walked, but was put out on a force out when Jason Keller hit the ball to the Tyler shortstop to end the inning. The Knights pushed across a run in the bottom half of the second.
In the top of the third, Cain singled to start the inning and came home on a Drew Keller sac-fly. Walton walked and, two batters later, Elliot also drew a walk with two outs. Wilhoite struck out to end the inning.
The Knights were held scoreless in the home half of the third and the Eagles' lead was 6-1 after three.
In the top of the fourth, Hanna tripled to start the inning and scored on a Knight single.
During Jason Keller's at-bat, Knight was caught trying to steal second. Jason Keller later walked and Grant Cain struck out for out number two.
Then, it was Drew Keller who singled to score older brother Jason.
However, Drew was put out at second when Walton hit a ground ball to third, ending the inning. With Magnolia leading 9-1, the Knights once again were kept off the board in the home half of the fourth as Wilhoite came in relief of starting pitcher Hanna and struck out one and walked none in the fourth.
In the top of the fifth Brantley Hissam reached on an error with one out. Hanna then walked and Jake Starkey reached on an error. All three came around to score.
With the Eagles leading 12-1, Sapp worked the home half of the fifth and got the save as he struck out none and walked none.
Hitting for the Eagles were Knight with a single and two RBIs. He also scored a pair of runs. Wilhoite had a single, a double, brought home a run, and scored once himself.
Elliot tripled, scored once, and had an RBI. Walton singled, tripled, and crossed the plate once, while Jason Keller singled and scored twice. Cain singled, doubled, plated two, and scored a pair of runs.
Drew Keller singled, had a sacrifice, and drove in two. All told, the Eagles scored 12 runs on 14 hits and no errors, while the Knights scored one run on three hits and two errors.
Hanna got the win from the mound, striking out four and walking three in three innings of work.
Wilhoite worked the fourth as he struck out one and walked none. Sapp worked the fifth and struck out none and walked none.
With the win, the Eagles advance to the regional semifinals on Monday, May 21, against the Oak Glen Golden Bears at Oak Glen.In game one of the sectional tournament on Monday, May 7, at Magnolia. MHS Head Baseball Coach Dave Cisar got his 800th career victory as the Eagles beat the Knights 10-0 in five innings.
