‘Cats Win Doddridge Tournament

The Paden City boys middle school basketball team concluded its season with a record of 16-3, after twice defeating Cameron, Tyler Consolidated, Doddridge County, and Powhatan, while gaining single victories over River, Short Line, Beallsville, Peasants County, Ritchie County, Gilmer County, Skyvue, and Union. The team's victories included championships in the Paden City Eighth Grade Invitational Tournament, and the Doddridge County Middle School Eighth Grade Invitational Tournament.

In the semifinal game of the Paden City tournament, the 'Cats defeated Skyvue 53-34, led by Deven Price with 16 points, Aaron Heasley with 11 points, and Luke Cooper and Hayden Hizer, who each netted 10 markers. Logan Carroll contributed six tallies.

In the championship round, Paden City defeated Pleasants County by a score of 35-24. Leading the offensive charge for the Wildcats was Heasley with 12 points, Hizer with 11 markers, while Price knocked in six points. Cooper finished the game with four tallies, while Carroll ended the 'Cats' scoring with a deuce.

In the Doddridge Tournament, Paden City got by Ritchie County, 52-47 in the semi final. Carroll netted 15 points, followed by Price with 14 markers. Cooper provided a dozen points, while Hizer contributed nine points, and Heasley tallied a deuce. In the championship tilt Paden City defeated Gilmer County, 46-34. Hizer led all scorers with 16 points, while Price netted 13 markers. Cooper finished with eight points, Heasley followed with six points, and Carroll ended up with a triple.

For the season, the Wildcats averaged 43.8 points a game, while holding their opponents to 33.4 points a game.

Overall, Hizer led all Wildcat scorers with 223 points, while Cooper followed with 192 points. Price was third in scoring with 182 points, while Heasley knocked in 120 points, and Carroll 108 points. In addition, Kris Byers netted four points, while Andrew Dennis and Jacob Pierce each tallied a deuce.

Travis Leonard was also a member of the Wildcat squad this season and Bob Posthlewait was assistant coach. Head Coach Brent Croasmun praised his players for their hard work, hustle, and team play. He also thanks the parents who were involved with this year's team for their support. "Paden City always has great parental support with the basketball program," said Croasmun.
