The Oak Glen Golden Bears broke open a close game with a 16-6 fourth period run to beat the Lady Eagles, 45-30 in the opener of the Region One, Section One, Sectionals Feb. 21 at Oak Glen High School.
Deadlocked at nine after one period of play, the Oak Glen Lady Bears outscored Magnolia 9-6 in the second period take a three-point lead with them into the locker room.
In the third period, Oak Glen added one more deuce than the Eagles to take a 29-24 advantage with eight minutes remaining. Oak Glen would then use its 16-6 run to get the nod.
The Lady Eagles' Dallas Mullett tallied 10 points, including a basket from long range, while Mallory Chapman netted five deuces and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Kiera Standiford followed with five points, while Audrey Gibb and Jasmine Litton each tacked on a two pointer and Katie Blatt swished a free throw.
Vanessa Hissam paced the Bears with 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Payden Eckleberry netted 19 points.
The Lady Eagles will lose only Mullett to graduation and will return the rest of the team, including its leading scorer and rebounder, Chapman.
