The Lady Pilots outscored the Lady Bulldogs 8-2 in overtime to win their second straight Division IV girls' district basketball tournament with a 44-38 victory Feb. 22 at Union Local High School.
After losing its two previous meetings, Bridgeport raced out to a commanding 19-6 advantage after one period of play. However, the Lady Pilots turned things around in the second period with a 13-4 run to make it a game at 23-19 at the break, Bridgeport advantage. The Ramsay girls, Laken and Landyn, evenly divided eight markers to lead the Lady Pilot charge.
"I told my players that they did exactly what I asked of them in the second period to cut the deficit in half," stated River Head Coach Rick Isaly after the game.
In the second period, River scored one more point than Bridgeport and three more in the fourth to send the contest into overtime.
In the extra period, the Pilots' Cassidy McCullough scored six of her 10 points to help the River earn the victory.
Emile Weaver paced the Lady Pilots with seven baskets, while Laken Ramsay added 11 points. McCullough also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, charted four assists, and made four steals.
In addition, Landyn Ramsay and Leslie Young each tallied four markers, while Haylee Bowers sank a free throw.
With the win, the Pilots will advance to play Hiland Feb. 28 at Gnadenhutten, Ohio.
