Dominique Craft scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth period and in overtime to help the Paden City Lady Cats eliminate Calhoun County 47-43 in the opener of the Region I, Section II playoffs at Bob Burton Gymnasium Feb. 17.
Craft netted 3-4 charity tosses in the OT period, while teammate Logan Cosper connected on a basket from beyond the arc that helped the Lady 'Cats win their first-ever home sectional basketball game.
Neither team would mount much offense in the opening two quarters of basketball, with Craft sitting out the biggest portion of the first half in foul trouble. Paden City and the Lady Red Devils were knotted at six after one period of play. But, the visitors would score six straight points to grab their first lead, 12-11.
However, some nice baskets by Kayla Hizer and a lengthy three pointer by Lynnsie Parsons gave the hosts a 16-12 lead heading into the locker room.
Both teams traded baskets for most of the second half and were deadlocked at 36 with one-and-a-half minutes to play. The Lady 'Cats held the ball to the very end but missed two shots in close to send the game into overtime.
"We were either going to win it or send it into overtime right there," said PCHS Head Coach Kelly Sine.
In the overtime period, Craft and Cosper led Paden City scoring, with Craft dropping in one of her two trifectas and three foul shots, while Cosper zipped in two of her three shots from long range.
Craft was the game's leading scorer with 15 markers that included a pair of three point baskets and 9-10 from the foul line. She also hauled in 11 rebounds for a double-double. Cosper tallied 12 points, including three trifectas, while Hizer kept the 'Cats in the game with eight first-half points.
Parsons netted seven points, including one from beyond the arc, while Amanda Heasley tallied five points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
