The Valley Lumberjills won 55-40 over the Hundred Lady Hornets Feb. 15 in their last regular season game and on senior night for 'Jills Dani Hayes, Holli Schell, and Annaliese Henderson, who needed the hometown fans to energize them for the victory.
"We we ramped up for this game," said the Megan Bucher. "We wanted to play our best game of the season and hope that we would get it done." Bucher drilled a threeball to start the scoring, but Hundred's Hayley Hayes answered with two of the same, while Cheyenne Myers, Shayna Tedrow, and Katie Tennant popped in solid baskets to take a 13-9 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
However, the 'Jills closed the gap in the second period with five tallies from Dani Hayes and threeballs from both Bucher and Alisha Carter. But, the scoring of Emily Ebbert helped keep the Lady Hornets on top by six points. Teammate Mercedes Goff added a triple, while Hayley Hayes and Tennant each knocked in a deuce for a 27-24 Hundred lead at the break.
After the break, Schell scored seven of her team's 11 points to give Valley a 35-34 lead going into the final frame, which was all Valley's, who went on a 20-6 rampage to win. Dani Hayes and Sarah Bassett scored the final points for the Lumberjills.
Schell and Bucher paced the 'Jills with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Dani Hayes ended the night with 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double. Brittany Sivert tallied a quiet eight points, while Carter and Karrissa Headley each contributed three points. In addition, Bassett and Jessica Ashcraft each knocked in a charity toss.
"We just didn't have it tonight," said a dejected Hundred Head Coach Jeremy Kelch. "We will be okay. We will try to pull it together in the sectionals Saturday."
Haley Hayes paced the Hundred Hornets with a game-high 17 points that included a trio of three-point baskets. Goff swished a pair of long balls, while Ebbert and Tennant each netted six points. Tedrow and Chey-enne Myers each netted a deuce, while Dakota Kuhn sank a free throw.
In the junior varsity game, Valley made it a clean sweep, beating Hundred 26-24 with a pair of late free throws. Alyssa Wright paced the 'Jills with eight points, while Bassett tallied five markers. For the Lady Hornets, Emily Ebbert led the way offensively with eight points, while Paige Shriver netted five points.
