The story about the EMS and Fire Levy on pages 1A and 5A outlines the specifics of the measure-how much money it will generate, how much it will cost, how it will be divided and used-but the true value of the money is impossible to identify.
If your home is on fire and you need the quick response of a fire department, how much would that be worth? If you or a loved one has a heart attack or is involved in an accident and needs immediate medical attention, how much would that be worth?
You can't really put a price on it can you? Our lives and well being are immeasurable. On the other hand, the levy is easily calculable. You can get out your tax ticket and do the math. If you can't, we're sure the assessor's office could help.
For most Wetzel Countians, the additional tax burden is one they can bear, one they would gladly bear if it meant the difference of life or death.
So when you cast your ballot on Oct. 4 or in early voting, we encourage you to vote in favor of the EMS and Fire Levy. They are there when we need them, are we there for them?
