Wetzel Chronicle
Last week’s news of the killing spree by Shayne Riggleman of Morgantown left most West Virginians shaking their heads. Those are the kinds of things we hear of in other places, not here. Right? Wrong. Unfortunately such senseless tragedy can happen anywhere. This one was close and actually touched Wetzel County with the murder of one of our native sons, Robert Raber.

Senseless tragedy can also be so massive that it moves a nation. That was obvious on September 11, 2001; the emotions are still there, as evidenced by the memorial services that took place across America over the weekend. A couple noteworthy events were hosted within our county’s borders. The ceremony on Valley High School’s football field was certainly patriotic and the one at the New Martinsville City Building was moving. We are still trying to make sense of the senseless—a difficult, if not impossible, task.
