Baseball Tournament In Moundsville Set
The Moundsville Baseball League is sponsoring the Battle of Valley Fork All-Star Tournament July 8-10. The cost is $100 for Pinto Teams and two baseballs. For Mustang-level players the cost is $150 and two baseballs. For registration, contact Russ Sordyce at 304-231-4752.
NMS?Golf Scramble Detailed
The New Martinsville School second annual kickoff Golf Scramble is set for July 30 at Riverside Golf Course in Sardis, with a shotgun start at 7 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams with a $10, 000 hole in-one grand prize. The registration fee is $50 a person, or $200 for a four-player team.
Early Bird registration by July 20 will be $45 a player or $180 per team. Golfers will be provided courtesy drinks and food throughout the outing. An awards dinner, catered by Quintet’s Court Restaurant, will follow the scramble.

Quinet 5K Race On Tap July 23
The second annual Jim Quinet 5k Memorial Run/Walk will be held at 8 30 a.m., July 23, beginning and ending in front of Quinet’s Court Restaurant in New Martinsville.
The early entry fee of $12 includes a t-shirt. Entry fee on race day is $15. Registration will be from 7-8 a.m. Water will be made available midway in the race. At the finish line, there will be water, sport drinks, and snacks.
Awards will be given to the first overall male and female runners; the top three in 14 and under; as well as in age groups 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69; and 70 and up. There will be no duplication of awards.
The race and all proceeds from it will support a scholarship fund in memory of the late Jim Quinet, owner of Quinet’s Court Restaurant, who was a standout Christian athlete and always carried a smile with him.

Coast To Coast Baseball Camp Noted
Coast to Coast Baseball invites local players ages 10-18 to an upcoming tryout, where Coast to Coast staff will evaluate skills in four areas: hitting, fielding, arm strength, and speed.
Players who are accepted to the program may choose to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at the organization’s Arizona or Florida Camp and in showcase events held at a MLB spring-training complex.
In addition to the tryout, an instructional hitting camp will be held to help players improve hitting fundamentals, as well as their mental approach at the plate.
Events will be held at baseball field at West Virginia State University on July 16 with tryouts at 10 a.m. and hitting camp starting at 2 p.m.
Since 2001, nearly 2,000 athletes ages 11-18 from 46 different states have participated in the Coast to Coast program. The Coast to Coast alumni now compete at every level of collegiate baseball, and even professionally.

Sistersville General Hospital will be offering sports physicals July 12 at Paden City High School from 9 a.m. until noon. The clinic is open to all student-athletes in the area. All participants must have a parent-signed physical form. A donation of $10 is requested.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament On Tap
A free 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held July 9 at the Brightway Center, a non-denominational Christian youth in Smithfield, Ohio. The tournament will feature boys’ and girls’ divisions, as well as high school, junior high school, and adult divisions. High school students should be entering grades nine-12 in the upcoming 2011-12 school year and junior high students should be entering grades seven and eight in the upcoming school year. Each team will consist of four players per team and there will be a 24 team minimum.
There is no registration fee for participating in the tournament. Walk-ins will be accepted but interested teams are strongly urged to register online.
