Dream Big. . . Too Big?

February 23, 2011
Wetzel Chronicle
We’re glad to see the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation’s plan for Bruce Park includes keeping Bruce Pool, even if it can’t be used any longer in its original capacity. The ideas of making the deck a splash park/ice skating rink are appealing.

However, we have to say some of the remainder of the plan, particularly the big upgrade for the miniature golf area, seem a bit grandiose. There is nothing wrong with dreaming big, but some reality is necessary too.

The city already has a hard time financially supporting its parks, how will such big upgrades be financed?

Sure, we can seek and hopefully get grants, but at some point, even with all the money at our fingertips, we need to question if the resulting usage will justify the expenses of all projects proposed.
