Violation Of The Deepest Kind

By Staff | Nov 3, 2010

We were appalled to hear the news of the vandalism at the Paden Fork Chapel Christian Church, particularly when we heard the exact nature of the offensive graffiti.

As Sheriff James Hoskins said, “There are some things that are sacred, like a church or any symbol of our nation.” When disrespect is shown to anything held sacred by another, it is a violation of the deepest kind.

It puts us in the mind of the church leader in Florida who initially said he would burn a Koran on Sept. 11. Thankfully he withdrew his threat and the horrible act never took place.

You see, it doesn’t matter your views on things as potentially inflammatory as religion and politics, you still need to show at least some level of respect. Without the recognition of some boundaries, then any rational exchange of ideas is impossible. In fact, with the crossing of such boundaries, irrational behavior is almost certain.

We hope the congregation of the Paden Fork Chapel Christian Church can find the capacity for forgiveness and healing toward the vandals, leaving the outcome in the hands of their God and our justice system.

We also hope the Wetzel County?Sheriff’s Office can solve the crime and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.

If you have any information that may help lead to their arrest, please call the WCSO at 304-455-2430.
