It's been a rather rough week here in Wetzel County, as the front page attests.
We certainly offer our condolences and sympathy to the Partridge and Thomas families. The traffic accident that claimed two lives Sunday evening is almost unfathomable in its improbability, but even more difficult to understand in its reality.
At the same time, just across the Wetzel County line in Marshall County, crews were addressing a gas drilling rig fire on Pleasants Ridge. That incident is still ongoing, but we are thankful that no one was seriously injured.
Then the new grand jury indictments are enough to make us literally sick to our stomachs. The thought that people, our fellow Wetzel County citizens nonetheless, could do such horrible things is unimaginable.
It's pretty bad when the highlight of the week's news may be the sentencing of, essentially, a murder. At least in that case there is some retribution for evil.
We'll certainly hope for some better news next week because we just can't take many more weeks like this.
