Wetzel Chronicle

Whenever I am covering an event for the Wetzel Chronicle that involves a lot of photos and movement, like a festival or a parade, I usually keep a notecard or folded piece of paper in my pocket to jot down information of what I?photograph. It eliminates the need for a cumbersome bag or notebook.

This is exactly the method I employed Saturday while spending the afternoon and evening at the Festival of Memories in?New Martinsville. That day my object of choice was a folded up sticky note approximately four inches square. I had folded it into quarters, making it about two inches square. It wasn't very big, but it served the purpose.

Throughout the day I would pull my pen and paper from my pants pocket and write down a name or two.

Toward the end of the evening I put my hand in my pocket and couldn't find my handy-dandy Post-It note. I panicked and retraced my steps. No luck.

My friend and former Tyler Star News editor Barry Harter commented on my downturned head and I explained my loss and subsequent search.

When I got home that night, still empty pocketed, I decided I would put Facebook to work and posted my dilemma to a few Riverfront Development Committee members. I figured it was a lost cause, but it couldn't hurt to ask them to keep an eye out for the tiny slip of paper while they cleaned up.

Would you believe the next morning they posted that Joe Ward had found my coveted piece of litter? (Thank you again Joe!)

I sent Barry an e-mail of the find and in addition to shock, his e-mail included this: "maybe means you're livin' right - and should get a notebook." Nah!
