Ham And Bacon Show Nets Over $50,000

The 42nd annual Wetzel County Ham, Bacon, and Egg Show held Friday at the Mollohan Center in the Wetzel County 4-H Grounds made $51,124. Of that income, Almost $44,000 went to the 4-H participants and FFA students and just over $7,000 went to the Paul Henderson Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The average price of a ham was $428.49; bacon, $374.04; and dozen eggs, $452.50. As usual, the exhibits judged to be the grand and reserve champions brought much more than the average. The grand champion ham by Samantha Thomas went for $2,193.75 to AAA Homes of New Martinsville. The reserve grand champion ham exhibited by Kelsey Adams sold for $1,012.50 to Drilling Appalachian Corporation.

Aubrey Greathouse's grand champion bacon sent to high bidder Wetzel County Commissioner Scott Lemley for $2,131.25. The reserve grand champion bacon from Levi Street was sold to Chesapeake Energy for $1,821.25.

Miss Blue's Restaurant in Hundred purchased the Ryan Lemley's grand champion eggs for $2,200. The reserve champion eggs from Nathan Arnolds went to Chesapeake Energy for $525.
