A Local Connection

POSTED: January 21, 2010

As we see the reports from Haiti in the aftermath of a very strong earthquake, we can't help but feel compassion for the people of that country.

The devastation is really too great to even comprehend. All we seem to be able to do is shake our heads, say a prayer, and shed a tear.

But thankfully we have some local people who are already on the ground in Haiti and helping in whatever way they can. Gary and Caroline Walker have been in Haiti for nine years. They have a Christian-based English speaking American-style school and a music program. They also meet some basic food needs and teach a Bible school weekly.

By reading their blog at www.touchstmarchaiti.blogspot.com you can better understand what they are doing and the conditions there on a daily basis as they go through this crisis.

Of course they need support in helping the people. During this time when many want to reach out and help those suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake, it is great to know there is a local address that will take donations and wire the monetary gifts directly to the people who are doing the work.

We particularly appreciated that they planned on reopening the school Tuesday so the orphaned children could have a sense of "normal". That is particularly important for the young during such a crisis.

We hope many readers will help however they can and through whatever vehicle they desire. The need is so great.

If they've been in Haiti for nine years then who's the preacher at the chapel Of victory in Pine grove? Please tell me it isn't the convicted child molester.
