Local Bicycle Race To Be Held

Five area bicycle riders are gearing up for a 45 mile road race set for April 25-26. The road race will start with a nine-mile team trial starting April 25 in front of the Hannibal Locks and Dam and finishing in Clarington. The race continues on April 26 at 10 a.m. in front of the Baristas Cafe and Pub, with the riders testing themselves against the arduous hills of Monroe County. Bicycle riders left, Charlie Sebroski, Michael Myers, Larry Starkey, John Yevuta, and Bob Byard stop for a breather before heading out on a ride to get ready for the road race.

Bicycle racing will return to Wetzel and Monroe counties April 25-26, under the direction of Aron Yevuta, owner and operator of River Valley Bicycles in New Martinsville.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., a nine-mile team trial will be held starting on Ohio Rt. 7 in front of the Hannibal Locks and Dam. The event will finish in Clarington.

Sunday will see a 45 mile road race starting at 10 a.m. in front of Baristas Cafe & Pub in New Martinsville, proceeding across the Korean Veterans Bridge and into Ohio, where the riders will test themselves against the arduous hills of Monroe County.

Riders from West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania are expected to show up for the challenging course. Top local rider Wayne Anderson is expected at the start along with talented newcomer Michael Myers. Spectators are encouraged and volunteers are welcome.
