The Wheeling Recreation Dept. is sponsoring two fastpitch softball clinics for local girls beginning Feb. 1, 2009 with a fundamentals clinic for girls ages 5-10.
The four-week clinic, to be held at the Wheeling Park High School gymnasium, will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays for one hour and 15 minutes.
Instructors will be coaches and players from Wheeling Jesuit University and West Liberty State College.
Each camper will be taught the proper way to throw, field, hit, bunt and run the bases in addition to other fundamentals. Participants are asked to bring their ball gloves and bats. If needed, however, bats can be provided.
Pre-registration is recommended and the deadline for early registration is Jan. 25, 2009.
Also on Sundays, beginning Feb. 1, 2009 the department will sponsor two hitting clinics at the Wheeling Park gym. The clinic for high school players, grades 9-12, will meet from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. The clinic for players in grades 1-8 will meet at 1 p.m.
The clinics will provide a unique opportunity to develop fastpitch hitting skills, while receiving top quality instruction from college coaches and players. Additional hitting stations have been added this year, along with 12 pitching machines.
To pre-register or for more information on these clinics, call the recreation department at 304-234-3641.
