More W.Va. seniors eligible for Medicaid home care

April 22, 2014
Associated Press

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — More than 100 West Virginia seniors have become eligible for in-home nursing care through the Medicaid program.

The expansion is due to an increase in state funding for the Medicaid Aged and Disabled waiver program.

Department of Health and Human Resources deputy commissioner Brandy Pierce says the agency has notified 134 seniors that they're eligible to come off a wait list for in-home health care. Pierce says more than 2,200 seniors remain on the wait list.

The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/QusjGh ) reports that Pierce discussed the waiver program Monday during a legislative interim committee.

The Legislature increased funding for the program this year by $5 million. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin reduced the increase through a line-item veto to $1.5 million.
