HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The generosity of an anonymous donor will keep open a Huntington haven for families of patients recovering at area hospitals.

Jo Fannin is executive director of the Jeffrey George Comfort House. She says it will remain open after the local donor offered to assume its $545,000 mortgage, which the bank had called in.

The house is located behind St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. Besides St. Mary's, it provides lodging for families of patients Cabell Huntington Hospital, Cornerstone Hospital, HealthSouth, River Park Hospital, Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital and the Veterans Administration.

Since it opened in February 2000, the Comfort House has provided temporary lodging for 25,000 guests who have lived farther than 50 miles from the Huntington area.
