CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The murder trial of a Kanawha County man accused of shooting two of his children and himself has been postponed.

Media outlets report the trial of 69-year-old Roy Rodger Pittman was scheduled to begin Tuesday, but Kanawha County Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib postponed it until May 5.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to a call about an argument at Pittman's home near Charleston on May 24, where they found his 15-year-old adopted daughter had been killed with a shotgun. His adopted 18-year-old son was wounded in the leg.

Pittman shot himself in the face when confronted by deputies. He was hospitalized for a month.

Pittman is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and malicious wounding.
