CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Matewan Middle School math teacher is facing charges she sexually abused a 13-year-old student.

State police arrested 32-year-old Jennifer L. Parsons on Thursday and charged her with one count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian. The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/Jmb4Ux ) reports she was being held in Southwestern Regional Jail on $150,000 bail. It did not say if she has an attorney.

Parsons is a math teacher and girls' soccer coach. Mingo County court records allege she began having an inappropriate relationship with the girl earlier this school year.

An investigation by Child Protective Services began on Dec. 6 after another teacher complained that Parsons was passing love notes to the girl.

The agency cleared Parsons of any wrongdoing, but more complaints were filed and state police investigated.
