CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Two West Virginia community health centers are sharing more than $1.5 million in federal funds.

Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin and Congressman Nick Rahall made the announcement Thursday.

Williamson Health and Wellness Center in Williamson is receiving $812,500. Community Care of West Virginia in Rock Cave is getting $704,167.

Rockefeller says in a news release that the funding will help the centers treat more than 5,000 additional patients.

The funding comes from a Department of Health and Human Services initiative aimed at improving service to underserved areas and areas with high numbers of uninsured.
