PRATT, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia American Water says it has completed its purchase of the town of Pratt's water system.
The company said Tuesday that the sale price was $437,000. The Kanawha County Commission also contributed $180,000 to help the town pay off outstanding debt obligations.
Town residents overwhelmingly approved the sale in June. The sale also was approved by the West Virginia Public Service Commission.
West Virginia American Water constructed a new water line connecting the system with the company's water treatment plant along the Elk River in Charleston. Pratt's water treatment plant is being taken out of service.
The company also agreed to invest about $400,000 to improve the town's fire hydrants, fix prominent water leaks and replace all meters so that customers are billed accurately.
