CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia state lawmaker has been tapped to be the chairman of the State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus.

Del. Gary Howell was appointed to the post this month after a New York Assemblyman became a city supervisor.

The caucus is a bipartisan group of state lawmakers who love automobiles. Nearly 600 state legislators from all 50 states have joined the group.

The caucus' goal is to raise the motor-vehicle hobby's profile in state legislatures across the country. Howell is the owner of Howell Automotive in Keyser and has raced stock cars and drag cars.

Howell serves on the West Virginia House of Delegates' Roads and Transportation Committee.
