W.Va. woman pleads guilty to shooting grandson

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia woman who killed her 11-year-old grandson while shooting in the dark at people she thought were outside her home has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

The Exponent-Telegram ( says 57-year-old Tina Owens of Jarvisville wept as she pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in Harrison County Circuit Court on Thursday.

She told Judge John Lewis Marks that she had no idea one bullet from her .40-caliber handgun had traveled 200 yards, gone through the wall of her 11-year-old grandson's bedroom and slammed into his chest.

William Andrew Owens had just finished the fifth grade at Salem Elementary School when the shooting happened June 30.

Marks has scheduled sentencing for Dec. 12.
