PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) — A Barbour County grand jury has indicted a Belington couple who allegedly gave a toddler illegally purchased methadone to make her sleep.

Authorities say 31-year-old Ida Lee Evans administered the drug to the 23-month-old girl, and 38-year-old David Lee Delauder did nothing about. The child died in March.

State Police say Evans administered the methadone the night before, and Delauder made no attempt to call 911 or have the child checked out when he learned of the ingestion.

Police say the couple bought the drug on the street.

The Exponent-Telegram ( says they were indicted Monday on charges of death of a child by parent or guardian.

Barbour County Prosecutor Leckta Poling says each could face 10-40 years in prison if convicted.
