WELCH, W.Va. (AP) — Catholic Charities West Virginia plans to offer a mentoring program for at-risk youth at a middle school in McDowell County.
The organization received a grant from Catholic Charities USA for the mentoring program. It will begin this fall at Mount View Middle School in Welch.
Mentoring coordinator Jami Clark says in a news release that the school has targeted several youth considered at risk who have shown the ability to overcome life's challenges.
The program initially will focus on sixth-graders.
The program is a partnership with the school, Reconnecting McDowell and McDowell County Schools.
