Prison term for Fla. Man who shipped pills to WVa

October 18, 2013

BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — A Florida man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for mailing 17,000 powerful prescription painkillers to West Virginia.

The U.S. attorney's office said 32-year-old Ryan D. Moore of Hillsborough County, Fla., pleaded guilty in May to money laundering and conspiracy charges stemming from the shipments of oxycodone between October 2010 and April 2012.

The pills were shipped from U.S. Post Offices near Tampa, Fla., to a PO box in Glen Fork. Moore also mailed the packages to a location in Nicholas County.

In return, Moore received at least $330,000 in cash payments. Prosecutors say Moore was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Beckley.

The West Virginia recipients of Moore's mailings were sentenced to prison terms in August.
