HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Huntington compliance officers have issued more than 800 citations to property owners for violating an ordinance aimed at eliminating outdoor junk, trash, high grass and weeds.
The ordinance went into effect July 1. It allows citations to be issued on the spot. Previously, owners had 10 days to clean up their properties before they received citations.
WSAZ-TV (http://bit.ly/1cJPsbT ) reports that 76 percent of the 827 property owners cited since July 1 agreed to clean up their properties before having to pay a fine.
City officials plan to hire a third code enforcement officer to target Huntington's west side.
