WESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Hearings are scheduled Nov. 1 for three men charged with the slayings of two Lewis County women in 1999.

All three hearings were postponed from earlier dates. The Exponent Telegram ( reports that Lewis County Circuit Court Judge Kurt Hall granted defense attorneys' requests to delay each proceeding.

Thirty-nine-year-old Joseph Metz of Horner, and Archbold, Ohio, residents David Martin Hughes and Charles S. Freeman are each charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery.

They are accused of killing Marcus Maxine Stalnaker and her daughter, Mary Friend. The women disappeared in 1999 after they left their Jane Lew home on a Christmas shopping trip. Their bodies have never been found.

Metz is Friend's son.
