MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia University law professor has written a book exploring Mahatma Gandhi's early years as a practicing attorney.

Charles DiSalvo is the author of "M.K. Gandhi, Attorney at Law: The Man Before the Mahatma."

The book traces Gandhi's journey of self-discovery from his education in Britain and the failure of his first law practice to his migration to South Africa.

DiSalvo joined the WVU College of Law in 1979. He teaches a law school course on civil disobedience, inspired by Gandhi's campaign of nonviolent resistance.

Published by the University of California Press, the book is available in bookstores and online.
