SUTTON, W.Va. (AP) — Two men have been returned to West Virginia to face charges in the 1999 slayings of two women whose bodies have never been found.

Media outlets report David Hughes and Steve Freeman were arrested in Ohio last month and were recently transported to the Central Regional Jail in Sutton.

Marcus Maxine Stalnaker and her daughter, Mary Friend, disappeared in December 1999 after leaving their Jane Lew home on a Christmas shopping trip. Their vehicle was found five days later near the Harrison County community of Gore in a muddy lot behind a concrete wall.

Hughes and Freeman are charged in Lewis County with first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery. Also facing the same charges are Mary Friend's son, 39-year-old Joseph Metz.

Jail records didn't indicate whether Hughes and Freeman have attorneys.
