MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Attorneys for a West Virginia teenager charged with the premeditated stabbing of her former best friend say she can't get a fair trial in Monongalia County. They want her murder trial delayed and relocated.
Attorney Michael Benninger filed several motions this week, including one that asks a judge to deny the use of a confession from 17-year-old Shelia Eddy's alleged accomplice.
Prosecutors say Eddy and Rachel Shoaf lured 16-year-old Skylar Neese out of her Star City home last summer, stabbed her for reasons that have never been disclosed, and hid her body under some branches just across the state line in Pennsylvania.
Media outlets say Eddy's attorneys want the trial delayed so they have more time to prepare and to conduct psychiatric evaluations.
Eddy's also charged with kidnapping and conspiracy.
