Free Business Development Program

July 5, 2010 - Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce

I am very excited about the Entrepreneurship & Small Business Development Program that is available for FREE to anyone who is thinking about starting a business, has already started a business and wants to improve or wants to expand.  The Chamber of Commerce requested the development of such a program and WVNCC came up with the agenda and the teachers for this course.  It is sponsored by the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce, WVU Extension Service, and WVNCC.

The classes for this program are being held for twelve weeks, beginning Tuesday July 6 from 6-9pm in room 110 at WVNCC.  You can call the chamber office at 304-455-3825 to register for the classes, or email chamber@wetzelcountychamber.com

The first class is an overview and intro to small business and entrepreneurship.  The second class is how to establish and start a business.  The third class covers basic accounting concepts and requirements/software available for accounting and tracking.  (As an aside, if you use quickbooks for your business but don't know basic accounting concepts this might be a valuable class for you, too.)  The fourth class covers financial considerations/financing/working with banks/credit.  And that's all in July!!!

There are 5 Tuesdays in August and the classes are:  computers, internet and websites; customer service; management principles; marketing concepts; and social media for small business applications.  One of the free lunch and lectures covered social media for small business and it was very informative and useful.

The last 3 classes are in September and they are:  human resource considerations (employees & regulations); business plans; and the last class is a round table discussion with business owners and will be a wrap-up session and provide resources for what you've learned.

This is a certificate program and also counts as Continuing Education credit.

Hope to see you there!
