Wetzel County CVB (Convention & Visitors Bureau)
March 2, 2010 - Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce
The Wetzel County Convention and Visitors Bureau (or CVB) has officially been spun off from the Chamber of Commerce. We have received our first distribution of the taxes from the City of New Martinsville and are in the process of publishing not only a tourism brochure highlighting our parks, recreation, and camping facilities but also next in the publishing line is a booklet about Wetzel County, both from a historical perspective and a current view. The tourism brochure should be available early summer and will be distributed to the Welcome Centers throughout WV and available at both the museum and the Chamber of Commerce. The CVB is being housed at the Museum and we are making plans for updating both the exterior and interior of the building and I will let you know as soon as we are ready for a grand opening ceremony. Current plans call for the museum to be open to the public at least three days a week once the remodeling has been completed.
The official contact email address for the CVB is email@example.com. That is my email address (Sandy Hunt) and I currently hold the position of both President and Executive Director of the Wetzel County CVB. And until such time as the CVB gets its own phone installed, you can reach me at 304-771-1661 with any questions, comments, or suggestions. We have had a few new people at our meetings and have appreciated their input and the time they are willing to devote to the betterment of Wetzel County.
I was out of town for the last Chamber board meeting but can update you on a couple of things that are coming up. The Economic Development Committee (Pillar IV) has completed a Business Retention and Expansion Survey. When you receive the survey, either by snail mail or email, please take the time to complete and return to the Chamber of Commerce. The information being gathered is important to our continued efforts to improve the business climate in Wetzel County.
The Chamber of Commerce is also hosting a strategic planning retreat on March 18th. This evening is designed to look at the progress we've made since our Evening of Discoveries that was held in 2007, how on target we are with the goals that came from that event, and to revise and revamp and refresh our goals heading in to the future. I believe over 100 invitations were sent out to this event and I am looking forward to an exciting session.
Coming up soon is the Annual Awards Dinner and Pillar I is working on making that event even bigger and better. If you want to sponsor a table decoration for the Awards Dinner please contact the Chamber at 304-455-3825 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Check the Chronicle for details on nominations for the awards themselves. You can also contact the Chamber if you wish to make a monetary donation and become a sponsor of the Awards Dinner.
There are so many things happening in Wetzel County that any of you can take part in so please get involved as we continue to further both business and tourism in our county.
Sincerely, Sandy Hunt
