August Board Meeting

August 29, 2009 - Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce

The monthly board meeting for the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce was held August 26.  The board meetings are open to the public and are held the last Wednesday of each month at 8AM at WVNCC.   Check out the Chamber website at for listings of events and meetings.

Josh Jefferson from RED (Regional Economic Development) reported on the current interest being shown to rent the Industrial Park.   The Chamber made their recommendations for negotiations and also approved bids for an upgrade to the entrance to the facility and will proceed once the bids have been received.

We also received a letter from the Clerk of the House of Delegates informing us that the recent resolution adopted by the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce will be presented to the full House upon the convening of the next session of the legislature.   Eric Vincent reported that he had received a similar letter from the Ohio legislature.   The resolution in its entirety also was sent to the Wetzel Chronicle for publication.

We are all excited about the Sternwheeler coming again in September.  I believe there are still blocks of time available on Saturday and Sunday if anyone is interested in booking an event.    The Chamber of Commerce Dinner Dance is Saturday, Sept. 26th from 6 to 9 PM.   This event is being catered by Quinet's and is a very reasonable $60 per couple, or $35 per individual.  I cannot tell you often enough that the Sternwheeler cruise is a wonderful, relaxing event so please take advantage of it.   Tickets are on sale at the Chamber office on Main St.  The Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours, hosted by WVNCC, is also aboard the Sternwheeler on Thursday, Sept. 24th.

All committees are currently active and if you wish to participate in any of the committees for the Chamber of Commerce please contact the Chamber office or any of the board members.  Our committees work on business retention, events, advocacy, community involvement, tourism, and economic development (just to give you the highlights).   I'm fairly sure that  the Chamber of Commerce has the most active membership in Wetzel County and we wish to welcome any and all who wish to serve with us to better our communities.

The Riverfront Development Committee reported that they are holding a dinner cruise aboard the Sternwheeler on Friday, Sept. 25th from 4 to 7 PM with a cost of $30 per person.  This event is being catered by I & D catering.   Sounds to me like there is a lot to participate in during Sternwheeler weekend.

Also, we want to send a special shout-out to WVNCC for hosting the Lunch & Lecture program on the last Friday of each month at noon.  This is a free lunch & educational program.  Yesterday's topic was "Going Green to Save Green" and we all need to save a little green.

Don't forget to support your local businesses by buying local whenever possible.  It is especially critical during these times when the economic downturn has affected every business person I have spoken with.
