Chamber Board Meetings
July 30, 2009 - Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce
July 30, 2009
The Chamber had its regular monthly board meeting yesterday morning and a lot of the discussion centered around the Industrial Park. We currently have 5 different businesses considering locating or relocating to our Industrial Park. One of them we had to turn down due to the nature of their business, hazardous chemicals, and the proximity to the creek which feeds into the Ohio Rivier. So it appears that the Industrial Park will soon be leased once again. I will keep you posted as things develop.
The Valued Resources Pillar, the committee in charge of member services, retention, and chamber acitivities, are currently holding meetings to plan the Chili-Fest which will be held on Halloween this year! They had a meeting at 10am this morning, so if you are interested in helping out with and/or in promoting the Chili-Fest please contact the Chamber Office at 304.455.3825 for details on their next meeting.
Weldon Williams is the person in charge of planning the Stern Wheeler Fest in September and you have probably already heard some of those announcements on the radio. Space is limited so I would advise that you plan ahead and purchase your tickets early. Call Quila at the Chamber Office if you would like tickets or more information. Steve and I have participated in this event for the last two years and take several excursions while the Stern Wheeler is in town. It is so relaxing and enjoyable and quite a treat from a normal routine.
The Community Engagement Pillar is continuing to work on the tourism brochure and are currently planning the lay-out so we can begin to get an estimate of the total cost of the project. Our next projects will be youth involvement through some programs in the schools. Next meeting for this committee is August 25th at 8:30 am at the Chamber office. If you have any interest in this area please feel free to attend.
And the economic development committee is currently working on putting together a strategic plan for economic development for Wetzel County. One of the first items on their agenda is to develop a form on the Chamber Website, www.wetzelcountychamber.com, for those who have commercial property for lease or sale in our county. The goal is to have a database of all commercial property available so that when inquiries are made, we can determine the appropriate propertys to suggest based on the client's needs. Their next meeting is August 7th at 6:15pm at the Chamber office.
Tomorrow, Friday July 31st, is a FREE Small Business Expo in Wheeling at the WVNCC campus. The workshops are: What the SBA Can Do For You (10:30am), Going Global: Can You Afford It? (11:15), Interest Free Loans and the Recovery Act (12:00pm), The Real Skinny on Fat Federal Contracts (1:30pm), and Five Marketing Strategies Under $100 (2:15pm). The doors open a 10am to the public.
Also on August 6th, ArtsLink coffee house at 7PM with good music, refreshments, and entertainment. ArtsLink hosted the business after hours on July 23rd and a good time was had by all.
And of course, Town & Country Days is August 10 - 15th and The Oak Ridge Boys are coming to town!!
Don't let anyone tell you there is nothing to do in Wetzel County. Just join any or all of these committees and come out to the Board Meeting for the Chamber. The next board meeting is August 26th at 8am at WVNNC at 10am. It is open to the public and I hope to see you there!
