Participate In Wetzel County History Day
May 16, 2009 - Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce
The Wetzel County Chamber and WVNCC will be sponsoring a Wetzel County History Day on Saturday, June 20th at 10AM. As you've already read in my other blogs, we are working on putting together a tourism brochure for Wetzel County. WVNCC is also going to be assembling a DVD of Wetzel County history. The purpose of the WC History Day is to bring together folks from all over the county to share their memories, their memorabilia including artifacts and photos, and the things that they consider important in their own community that would be attractive not only for tourists but for individuals, business, and industry considering locating here.
Both the brochure and the DVD will highlight Wetzel County in general and then each of the communities will have their own section or chapter. So we need people from Paden City, Pine Grove, Hundred, Reader, Jacksonburg, Smithfield, and all our other small communities too numerous to list, willing to participate in this endeavor. This event is for young and old alike because our youth need to know that this area is rich with history.
Admittedly, I, myself, have been very ignorant of the history of Wetzel County with the exception of a few well-known facts. But in the last few meetings that Pillar III has had, I have been amazed and fascinated with the stories of our cultural heritage. I'm not going to spoil it by relaying any of them here, but come to Wetzel County History Day to listen and to share. You'll be glad you did.
