May 14, 2009 - Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce
Just wanted to give you a heads up on what some of your Chamber members are currently pursuing. Tonight at the Chamber office, at 6 PM, there will be a meeting to explore the feasibility of putting together some type of small business development panel. This idea came from our last board meeting and the hope is to include the Chamber, the Wetzel County Commission, and city officials. If you have any interest in economic development in the county feel free to attend. I will give you an update soon on the results of the first meeting.
Also, on Friday afternoon Larry Tackett and I will get together at the college to coordinate a Wetzel County History Day on June 20th. On my first post, I mentioned the rich history of our county. I want to thank Kim Herrick for this idea. We were recently at the Business After Hours held at Progressive Bank and I was talking with Matt and Kim about the tourism brochure and the history of our area when Kim came up with the idea to get a lot of people together to share their knowledge, their pictures, and their memories. Debbie Bennett was there and when I broached the idea to her she liked it. I asked for WVNCC involvement so a videographer (FYI - spell check didn't recognize the word videographer so is it one?) can capture all of it for posterity. WVNCC has already captured some of our citizens on video reliving "days gone by". WVNCC is a valuable asset to our community and I only wish all of you knew just how much they do in support of Wetzel County.
And again, I want to mention the Chamber website. With the help of a local gentleman the website has been much improved but we are open to suggestions of what you would like to see on your Chamber's website. Visit www.wetzelcountychamber.com to check out the events and activities. And I sincerely hope to see you soon as we all work to make Wetzel County the place to live and work.
5/16/09 The Pillar IV meeting to discuss economic development plans was very successful with several in attendance. Mindy located an economic development plan devised by another location that we all like and can edit to suit the purposes of Wetzel County. Every one there was given a copy to review before the next meeting on June 11 at 6PM at the Chamber office.
We are exploring the possibility of having a panel of experienced business people and experts doing an open forum for those who may be interested in starting or expanding their own business.
We also looked at the forecast for economic development trends for 2009/2010 so we can position our development plan to be ready for the upturn in the economy. We have some very ambitious goals for the coming year so anyone who would be willing to participate is more than welcome.
