Here We Go Steelers...

January 29, 2009 - Bruce Crawford
The Super Bowl means a lot to me in many ways. First I have until this year gotten to sit down and enjoy the fellowship with my boys. After going to the biggest Super Bowl church, the boys and I would get the room ready for that Super Bowl atmosphere, then we would go out and get munchies for the game. That in itself is super when you can go out and get all the amazing foods you wouldn’t eat any other time, but for the biggest football game of the season. The best Super Bowl feast that we enjoy is my favorite hot sausage sandwiches and cheese tray to go along with all the other finger foods.

We would go home and prepare the spread and watch all the hoopla before the game. If it was the Steelers playing, there wouldn’t be any question on who we were rooting for, because we are all STEELERS fans.

If it was someone else playing the game, we would pick sides and have a blast trying to support our team and still stay faithful to our beloved Steelers.

My wife would humble herself and watch if it was the Steelers, but would otherwise go out of the room and just enjoy listening to her boys root and have fun watching the game. I know she isn’t the fondest supporter of the Super Bowl by any means, but she understands that it is a chance for her favorite boys to get together to watch and enjoy the game with each other.

However, this time for the Super Bowl at my house will be empty without my boys and wife there. My darling wife Lynne will be working and my sons will all be away. My oldest will be with his family in Spotsylvania and my youngest is in London watching the game if he can on the web, and my middle child Chris will be with his in-laws supporting the Steelers, I hope.

However, I will make it through. I will attend church and then go to a softball umpires meeting before heading home to watch the game. It’s nice to have that DVR to watch the game and freeze the game to go get something out of the kitchen or go the the bathroom, and still not miss a thing.

The commercials are fun to watch—and to find out who is going to win the “BudBowl” game too. The halftime festivities are also grand, this season it’s the Boss performing and we all hope that he can deliver a great halftime performance.

I know the Steelers are a seven point favorite by the powers to be, but in my eyes and my boys it doesn’t make any difference to us if they win by one or 21. Go STEELERS!
