From Melinda Graham

Recently, the staff and students at Magnolia High School were treated to a wonderful program performed by the Magnolia Pride team. Pride is a high school organization that promotes healthy living through abstinence education.

From Joyce Haught

I am writing on behalf of the students who participated in the Spelling Bee and the Social Studies Fair that were held at Shortline School. Our winners’ names or pictures were never recognized or shown in the Chronicle.

From Robbin Rector

We would like to take this time to thank the following businesses and individuals for the donations they gave to our silent auction that raised funds for Judy’s Place recently: Auto Zone, Dr. Bruce Forbes, Bill Forbes, Dr. Neil Marshall, Brooks Barkwill Esq., Basket Cellar, Occasions, Fashion Bug, Beth Shank, Quinet’s Court Restaurant, Bujo’s, Bruce Bowling Lanes, Hannibal Garden Center, Marv’s Place, Work’s Fitness World and Tanning, NTB, Wayside Furniture, Home Comforts, The United Methodist Women, Donna Cochran, and 3-D Entertainment. If anyone was forgotten please accept our apologies as the support was appreciated and the community support was amazing. Again thank you.

From Cecilia Ries

This is a response to the gentleman who complained about the driving habits of the people who travel Doolin Route. They travel fast everywhere you look, and its not just young kids. The older people do it too.

From Marianne Shreve

When mailing packages, customers should consider the tremendous value and convenience of Priority Mail Flat-Rate Boxes.

From Emily Snyder

In response to Shirley Kern Roche-Hogue’s response to Jay E. Cunningham, D.D.S., New Martinsville; Geoffrey R. Cunningham, D. D. S., WVU School of Dentistry, Resident, Dept of Prosthodontics.

From Gary l. Winland

I’m Gary Winland, a long time resident of Wetzel County. Presently I’m a traveling therapist in north Carolina. I wish to respond to the recent illegal immigration bust in New Martinsville.

From Erica Rush-Covey

Aloha from Hawaii, I know I am a bit late on this, but I just received my April 9th issue of the Wetzel Chronicle. It’s never too late to write a letter regarding Ms. Judy’s article “Proud to Be an American”. I am a Marine Wife of over two years now and we are stationed at the Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Hawaii. (The island of Oahu). In this article she expressed how everyone gets too overwhelmed with their own personal lives and current routines to be able to have the time to stop and think about the men and woman still serving over seas and in the states in the Armed Forces.

From Deborah Yoho and John Falkenstein

On Sunday, April 6th, our West Highland white terrier was taken from her home in Northgate in New Martinsville. There were girls seen chasing her attempting to catch her. After not being able to catch her, our dog ran through the neighbor’s yard and into our yard and these girls were brazen enough to come onto the property and take her. They were seen by the neighbors taking her to the vehicle which was an older dark colored Buick or something similar. Our neighbor, who just got back from North Carolina, did not realize until speaking with us that these girls stole our dog. And oddly enough, he remembered three digits of the license number. We have now given that information to all local law enforcement agencies.

I live in Martins Ferry, Ohio right now, but I grew up in the Brooklyn section of New Martinsville. As such, I’d like to comment on George Antonik’s comments about the removal of the wading pool, and say I completely agree that a sprinkler park should have been built to take its place.

From Jim Barnhart

I appreciated the letter by Niles Hissom in last week’s Chronicle. Whether you agree or disagree, he at least has the guts to go public with what he believes. He is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ in which he believes (Mark 8:38).

From Barbara Day

I am writing to say that I am inspired by Barack Obama. There is a growing movement in the Ohio Valley and the rest of the US - People working together for change. Locally, we have several members of Ohio Valley for Obama that met on Friday evening at Baristas to join together and speak of the issues that are of significant importance for our local area. We would like to thank Baristas for the warm welcome that we received.

From Melissa Dinger

I have been volunteering at the Wetzel County Animal Shelter for the last six to eight weeks now and have been trying to do as many things I can to help them and the animals they care for. First of all, Rosy Cozart, who is the shelter director, has done an amazing job at keeping the place clean, a welcoming place where people no longer fear going to. She and her staff have done an exceptional job with cleaning this facility and all of the animals involved. I have become aware of this transformation.

From Kim Haught

Hey I`m going shopping—Yes, like sooooo many of us do (especially we women), I need something from the store. So naturally, living here in the New Martinsville, I head to Wal-Mart. I saw a few weekends ago exactly how, by not having any other retail competition, our Wal-Mart can charge higher prices then other Wal-Marts. I was kinda on the belief that all Wal-Marts were charging about the same for their goods.

From Russell Powell

Know Your limits” I am writing this to maybe open some eyes of the public. Do you know the speed limit on your country road? You may be surprised! I was almost run over twice by the same passing motorist on one of the four roads that dissect our farm.

From Rob and Linda Stackpole

In response to George Antonik’s “Letter To The Editor” we would like to say that Mr. Antonik has some very good ideas indeed. A skate park for children, a bandstand, a community activities center, and a sprinkler system in our Brooklyn Park all are worthy and worthwhile projects. Why doesn’t someone create committees for such purposes? I propose that you, Mr. Antonik would make a wonderful candidate for just such projects. With your passion and knowledge you would make a very good committee chairman. Grants could be written, monies donated, and eventually the projects mentioned would be seen to fruition. Passion and commitment to these projects is what is needed in our community.

From Carolyn Yoho and Donna Leek

I am writing in concern about a Ladies Auxiliary. I think it is a shame that you can not go to the meeting or any other functions that they have without people having to say things to one another or fights breaking out, and the foul language being used around the junior members and other adults.

From Earl S. Yost

I would like to respond to George Antonik’s April 16th letter to the editor, which in my opinion was an inexpensive way to promote himself as a political candidate. It is not in my nature to write letters to the editor, but I’ve grown tired of remaining silent, as Mr. Antonik repeatedly criticizes those who are working hard and trying to make a difference in their community.

From George Antonik

New Martinsville could build a skatepark for our youth.

From Niles Hissom

I ask the preachers and members of our local churches to consider what should be of great concern regarding the preaching that takes place in their pulpits. Here is why. Jeremiah Wright, the preacher in the Chicago church where Barrak Obama is a member, highlighted a massive failure in religion. Men like him have hi-jacked religion from the pulpit. That rostrum should be distinguished as a place to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ only, not political or social agendas.

Shirley Kern Roche-Hogue

In response to Jay E. Cunningham, D.D.S., New Martinsville; Geoffry R. Cunningham, D. D. S., WVU School of Dentistry, Resident, Dept of Prosthodontics.

Terry L. Long

Americans believe in justice for all. Yet to achieve justice for all, we must see justice for victims of crime. Victims want offenders held accountable for their crimes. And they want our nation to honor their rights, protect their safety, and hold them rebuild their lives.
