May 27 -- Mollohan Representative
A representative for First District Congressman Alan Mollohan will be available to visit residents of Wetzel County May 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Byrd Center in Pine Grove and May 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hundred Senior Center.
May 23 -- Middlebourne Cemetery
The Middlebourne Cemetery Association will be accepting donations for upkeep at the cemetery during the Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26.
May 24 -- Wileyville Roast Beef
The Wileyville Homecoming Committee will sponsor a roast beef dinner on May 24 from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $7 for adult and $3.50 for children under 12. Proceeds will go to the fireworks that are slated for the annual homecoming.
May 24 -- Staley Reunion
The Staley Reunion will be held May 24 in Pine Grove at the Byrd Center, top floor. Lunch will be served at noon, with an auction following the meal. Meat, potatoes, breads, and salads are needed this year. Everyone welcome!
May 24 -- Walker Cemetery
The Walker Cemetery annual meeting will be May 24 at noon at the cemetery.
May 8 -- Happy Timers Meeting
The Paden City Happy Timers Senior Citizens will meet at the center on May 8 for their regular monthly meeting and covered dish dinner at noon. This month is “Pot Luck Lunch” with each member bringing a covered dish.
May 8-10 -- Benefit Yard Sale
The second annual Middlebourne to Meadville Community 15-mile yard sale (starts at Bridgeway and ends at Meadville) will be held May 8, 9, and 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Several families participating. Lunch will be available at Baker’s on Freeland Run. Proceeds from food sales go to Relay for Life/American Cancer Society. Anyone living in this area that wants to participate simply needs to set up their yard sale and post signs at their house so everyone will know to stop.
May 9 -- Karaoke
American Legion Post 28 New Martinsville will be having karaoke on May 9, 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with “Milo & George”.
May 10 -- TOPS
T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a weight loss group, meets Fridays at 6 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church in Smithfield.
May 12 -- Cancer Information
Sandra Duvall, cancer information specialist for region six of the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program is going to do ovarian cancer outreach at the libraries in Wetzel County. The schedule is as follows: May 12, 11 to noon, New Martinsville Public Library; May 15, 6-7 p.m. at Hundred Public Library; May 16, 1-2 p.m., Pine Grove Public Library; May 19, 1-2 p.m. at Paden City Public Library. She will provide information and cancer education.
May 13 -- Eastern Star Meeting
New Martinsville Chapter # 50 Order of Eastern Star will hold a stated meeting on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Masonic Temple, Main Street, New Martinsville. Worthy Matron Nola Parks and Associate Patron Eddie Rayburn will preside.
May 14 -- Head Start Meeting
The Board of Directors of Northern Panhandle Head Start Inc. will hold its annual corporation meeting on May 14, 12:30 p.m. at the Elm Grove United Methodist Church, 125 Kruger Street, Wheeling. The meeting is open to the public.
May 17 -- Music in the Park
Peoples Bank families and friends Relay for Life team will sponsor Music in the Park on May 17, 2-7 p.m. at Holy Name Park (beside St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Rosary Road in New Martinsville). There will be live bands playing country, bluegrass, gospel, and pop rock as well as karaoke. Concession, games, raffles, and a cake and pie auction will also be held. Bring chairs or blankets.

May 3 -- Square Dance
On May 3 a round and square dance and country music show will be held at Ashley Campground from 8 to 11 p.m. This is the opening night for the season. The campground is located on W.Va. 23, 15 miles from Tyler, off W.Va. 18.
May 4 -- Evangelist Visits
On May 4 Evangelist Kenny Large From Worthington, Ky., will be ministering at Chapel of Victory, town hill, Pine Grove. Morning worship service starts at 11 a.m. with Sunday school starting at 10 a.m. Evening worship begins at 7 p.m.
May 5 -- Democratic Women Meeting
The Wetzel County Democratic Women will meet May 5, 5:30 p.m., at Quinet’s Court Restaurant. The guest speaker will be State President of the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women, Belinda Biafore. She will speak on Super Delegates, “Who and What They Are”.
May 8 -- Chocolate Extravaganza
The 20th annual Hadassah Chocolate Extravaganza, will be held on May 8, 408 p.m., at Temple Shalom, 23 Bethany Pike, Wheeling. Local and near local chocolatiers will provide guests with a sampling of their most decadent chocolate treats.
May 8 -- Conalco Brunch
The 15th annual Conalco Brunch will be held at 10 a.m. on May 8 at Po Boy’s Restaurant in New Martinsville. All ex-Conalco salaried employees and their spouses are invited. Please contact other ex-employees and encourage them to attend.
May 10 -- Hillbilly Haven
The public is invited on May 10 to join the folks at Hillbilly Haven to celebrate the beginning of their 10th year of country music, friendship, and fun. The free show begins at 1 p.m. at the Haven on Morris Run in Wetzel County.
May 10 -- Pioneer Days
Come on over to Sardis on May 10 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and experience the “Good ol’ Days”. The day will be filled with Pioneer Day demonstrations by Artisans of trades used long ago. There will be a blacksmith, Conestoga wagon encampment, Civil War soldiers and buckskinners, quilting, soap and cheese making, basket weaving, and much more. The day will end with a square dance in the street from 6-9 p.m. Food will be available.
May 10 -- Swiss Hills School Reunion
Come and help celebrate the 30th Swiss Hills School Reunion. Anyone associated in any way with Swiss Hills in its 30 years of success should make plans to help celebrate on May 10 at Rubel’s Park, located just one mile west of Woodsfield on SR 78. Everyone attending is asked to bring a covered dish to share at 6 p.m. A disc jockey will begin around 8 p.m. A small donation of $5 per person will help toward paying for expenses.
May 10 -- Walk For Life
The Walk for Life sponsored by the Wetzel County chapter of West Virginians for Life will be held May 10. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at the city building, Main St., New Martinsville, and the walk starts at 11:30 a.m. There will be a rally and food at the walk conclusion at Bruce Park around noon. Funds raised will be split between West Virginians for Life and Woman’s Choice in Charleston, a privately funded, Christian-based group that provides alternatives to abortion, baby and maternity items, parenting classes, and facilitates adoption. This group gets 700-900 calls per year in the city where all of West Virginia’s abortions occur. Contact person is Diane Strippel, 455-6068.
May 10 -- Women’s Health Fair
On May 10 the Wetzel County Coalition will sponsor a Women’s Health Fair for screenings, make-up, and flowers at the Community Health Center at Burton from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
April 30 -- Fish Fry
The Paden City Volunteer Fire Company Women’s Auxiliary will sponsor a fish fry on April 30 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the fire hall. Menu includes fish sandwiches, cole slaw, french fries, baked beans, and desserts. The public is welcome.
May 11 -- Prayer Breakfast
Wayne Fetty, retired teacher and track and cross country coach, will be the speaker at the next monthly prayer breakfast May 11. He will be sharing his testimony—telling how the Lord has worked in his and his family’s lives, what his walk with the Lord means to him, as well as anything the Lord might put on his heart. The meeting is held every second Saturday of the month at Quinet’s Court Restaurant, Main St., New Martinsville, from 9-11 a.m.
May 12 -- Fibromyalgia Awareness
Wetzel County Hospital will observe Fibromyalgia Awareness Day on May 12 in the hospital’s conference room #2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
May 15 -- Free Vision Test
A free vision test for all local senior citizens will be conducted at Community Resource on Main Street across from West Virginia Community College on May 15 beginning at 10 a.m.
May 20 -- Prostate Poker Dinner
The Wetzel County Cancer Coalition will sponsor a free “Prime Rib and Poker” night on May 20 at the Mollohan Center. The dinner will be from 5-7 p.m. and will be for men only. Dr. Greg Merrick will speak on prostate health. Prizes will be awarded to the lucky cardholders.
June 8-12 -- VBS
The countdown for Vacation Bible School has officially begun. Mark your calendars now for June 8-12 at the First Baptist Church from 6-9 p.m. This year’s VBS theme is “God’s Big Backyard”.
July 11 -- Dougger Dance
The Magnolia High School Class of 1983 will host a Dougger Dance in celebration of their 25-year reunion, July 11 from 8 p.m. to midnight at Prestos Lunch on Main Street. Cover charge at the door will be $30 per couple or $20 for singles. Appetizers and soft drinks will be provided. BYOB.
July 12 -- MHS 1983 Picnic
The Magnolia High School Class of 1983 will host a family picnic on July 12 at 2 p.m. at Bruce Park. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, soft drinks, and kids’ fun packs will be provided. Please bring a covered dish or dessert. The cost is $20 per family or $10 per single. Payment must be made in advance. July 12 -- MHS 1980-89 Reunion
The Magnolia High School classes of the 80’s will hold their first-ever alumni reunion on July 12 at Klug Hall. The event will begin at 8 p.m., with entertainment provided by the Days Later band. Pizza, soft drinks, and kegs will be provided. The cover charge at the door will be $30 per couple or $20 for singles.

May 1 -- Customer Appreciation Day
The Hundred Post Office will celebrate Customer Appreciation Day on May 1. Postmaster Tammy Barker invites customers to stop by the office for an informational sheet on the new rate change that will be taking place on May 12. There will be refreshments served between 8 a.m. and noon. To celebrate spring the Post Office will also be giving away flower seeds and garden information.
May 1 -- Day of Prayer
In observance of the National Day of Prayer, First Baptist Church will be hosting a Prayer Breakfast May 1 that will begin at 6 a.m. Following a light breakfast, community leaders will lead prayer in various areas of concern. Again at noon everyone is invited to participate in a time of prayer at various pre-determined locations throughout our community. They will gather at the FBC parking lot where participants will be transported to these locations then back. National Day of Prayer will conclude with a community gathering at the plaza in front of the New Martinsville City Building for a time of prayer.

American Legion Post 28 will be having karaoke with J & J Music Sounds on May 2 from 8 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.
May 2 -- Relay Sale
A Relay for Life sale will be held at the First Christian Church, S. Wells St., Sistersville, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., May 2 and 3. There will be household items, baked goods, and food sale. All proceeds go to the Relay for Life. We’ll have new and used items. Also, lots of yummy goodies to eat.
May 3 -- Bluegrass Jam
On May 3 at 6 p.m. an all bluegrass, old time country music jam will be held at the River’s Edge Activities Center on Ohio 7, one-and-a-half miles north of Fly. There will be a 50/50 drawing. Food concessions open at 4:30 p.m. Camping with electrical hook-ups are available for a small fee. There is no admission charge but a free-will donation appreciated. No alcoholic beverages or smoking in building permitted.
May 3 -- PCVFC Breakfast
The Paden City Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor an all-you-can-eat breakfast at the fire hall on May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu includes sausage patties and links, bacon, pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits, coffee, orange and apple juice, milk, and fruit salad. The Harvest Time Church located in Pennsboro will host its annual “Appalachia” Campmeeting May 5-9. Guests include James Payne, Gerald Crabb, Aaron and Amanda Crabb, Danny Wegman, and Troy Ervin.
May 10 -- Hundred VFD Flea Market
Do you have any good but unwanted items (clothing excluded) lying around? Donate these items to the Hundred Volunteer Fire Department for their stand at the Hundred Area Flea Market by the State Police building on May 10.
May 10 -- Car Wash/Hot Dog Sale
There will be a car wash and hot dog sale May 10 at Bell’s Chevrolet in Sistersville from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., sponsored by the Phase 10 Relay For Life Team. Car wash is $5. Hot dogs are 50-cents each.
May 10 -- Flea Market
On May 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the United Methodist Women will be holding a flea market in the multi-purpose room of the church. They will have a variety of items for sale and will also be selling food and drinks. All proceeds will benefit mission projects. Questions call 455-1422 or 455-3481.

The May 17 meeting of Friends, a singles club, will meet at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m.
May 20 -- Cancer Support Group

May 24 -- Free Veterans Concert
The Ebert Brothers will present their annual free concert for veterans on May 24 at the Lincoln Theater. Warm-up begins at 7 p.m., show 7:30 p.m.
June 20 -- Quilt Show Bus Trip
On June 20 there will be a bus trip to Columbus for the National Quilt Association quilt show. Cost is $35.
July 5 -- Golf Tournament
Plans are made for the annual Paden City Alumni Golf Tournament which will be held July 5 at the Sistersville Country Club starting at 8 a.m with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Teams will be set up with five members each with the cut-off number 60. Cost per person is $30 dollars, which includes golf cart. Deadline is June 15 for alumni members and after that time will be open to the public.
April 24 -- Pine Grove FFA Alumni Meeting
Pine Grove FFA Alumni will be holding its next meeting on April 24 6 p.m. at the Valley High School Vo-Ag room. The drawing for the Carhartt jacket and bib overalls donated by Tractor Supply Co. will be held at that time. If you would like to purchase a raffle ticket before the drawing or become an FFA Alumni member, contact vice president Tim Basset at 386-4759.

On April 27 the Fur, Fin, and Feather Club will be holding a work day at the clubhouse on Huff Ridge beginning at 10 a.m.. All working members wishing to complete hours for the year will need to attend.
April 30 -- Fair Shake Network Meeting
The next meeting of the Fair Shake Network, a grass roots advocacy group for people with disabilities, will be held on April 30 beginning at 10 a.m. in the conference room in the “C” Building at the Division of Rehabilitation Services in Institute, W.Va.
May 3 -- Indian Creek Yard Sale
The Alvy Community Club will hold its annual Indian Creek Yard Sale May 3. There will be over 11 miles of sales and at least 16 different sales from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Indian Creek is located seven miles south of Middlebourne. Turn from W.Va. 18 at the Exxon in Blue where maps are available. Yard sale items and refreshments will be sold at the Alvy Community Center located eight miles up Indian Creek Road. The food will include hot dogs with sauce, homemade noodles, desserts, and drinks.
May 3 -- Soup Bean Dinner
There will be a soup beans and cornbread dinner from noon to 4 p.m. May 3 at the Sistersville Fire Department, benefitting the Phase 10 Relay For Life Team. On the menu: soup beans and ham, cornbread, cole slaw, dessert, tea, and coffee. Price is $5 per meal with carry out available.

April 20 -- Pampered Chef Party
A Pampered Chef Party hosted by the Hundred High School Band Boosters will be held April 20, 2 p.m., in the HHS Commons. All proceeds will be applied to paying for the new band uniforms.
April 20-23 -- Spring Revival
The Paden City Christian Church will be hosting a spring revival April 20-23. There will be a pre-concert each evening beginning at 6:40 p.m. The regular service will begin at 7 p.m. Bob Ponchot will be the evangelist speaking each evening. The Paden City Christian Church is located at 105 E. Main Street in Paden City.
April 21 -- Relay Captain Meeting
The American Cancer Society will hold a Team Captain meeting for the 2008 Relay For Life of Wetzel County on April 21 at 7 p.m. at Magnolia High School. The 2008 Relay For Life of Wetzel County will be held on June 20-21 at 6. pm at Magnolia High School Track Field. Chapel of Victory in Pine Grove, on the town hill, will host the David Bowen Family Singing Ministries from Spencer April 26 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Come and enjoy good music and the word of God.
April 26 -- Hazardous Waste Day
The annual Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup will take place April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Bayer East Parking Lot, State Route 2, North of New Martinsville. The following wastes will be accepted: paint (all types), used oil, antifreeze, used tires (limit four per vehicle, no rims/wheels), lead acid batteries, aerosol cans, and pesticides.
April 26 -- Soup Dinner
The American Legion Family of Paden City Post 86 (the Post, Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion) will have a fund raising dinner on April 26 at the Paden City Senior Citizens Building from 4-6:30 p.m. The menu will be vegetable soup, soup beans, cornbread, desserts, coffee, and iced tea. Eat in or take out! Vegetable soup with cornbread will be $2.50 a bowl and soup beans and corn bread will be $1.50 a bowl. Desserts will be 50-cents a piece.

Chris Hoke and Al Tuttle of Rising Moon Studio will host a spring bird walk on their 140-acre farm in Tyler County on April 27 at 7:30 a.m. The bird walk will be led by Greg Park, naturalist at the Oglebay Institute, Shrader Environmental Center. Bring a bag lunch. Beverages will be provided.

May 2 -- Church Women Luncheon
The Church Women of New Martinsville will sponsor a May Ecumenical Luncheon and Service on May 2 at the First Presbyterian Church on 59 E. Benjamin Drive at noon, with the program beginning at 1 p.m. The theme will be “Come Holy Spirit.”
May 10 -- Community Sale
Hundred Area PRIDE is sponsoring a Community Yard Sale on May 10. The event will be held at the West Virginia State Police Parking Area beginning at 8 a.m.
May 17 -- Spay/Neuter Clinic
Wetzel County Animal Shelter Supporters, Inc. (WCASS Inc.) will hold a low cost spay/neuter clinic May 17. These clinics target feral, farm, and stray cats, both male and female. The cost is $40 for females and $25 for males. This includes a rabies vaccination.
May 23 -- TCHS 1951 Reunion
The Tyler County High School Class of 1951 will meet at Quinet’s Court Restaurant at noon May 23 for a summer class reunion. All family members and friends are welcome for fun and reminiscing.
Aug. 2 -- VHS 1978 Cruise
Valley High School class of 1978 is hosting a dinner cruise on Aug. 2 from Marietta, boarding at 7:30 p.m., and invites the classes of 1970-1985 to join them. Long Valley Baptist Church is holding a revival now through April 18. Dr. Tom Milam is preaching the Word of God each night at 7 p.m. Long Valley Baptist Church is located approximately 20 miles east of New Martinsville on W.Va. 7, approximately four miles east of Wileyville.

An Earth Healing Ceremony will be held April 19 at Shelter One in Grand Vue Park, Moundsville, from 3-7 p.m. This is a free celebration of the native connection to the Earth essence. Native American ceremonies unite with today’s concerns for a healthier planet. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair. Stay to view the sunset and moon rise that both occur before 8 p.m.

New Martinsville Chapter #50 and Martha Washington Chapter #22 Sistersville, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a special meeting on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Masonic Temple, Main Street, New Martinsville, for the Visitation of Worthy Grand Matron Carla Wright, a member of South Charleston Chapter No. 131, Charleston, and Worthy Grand Patron Herbert Groves, a member of Wakoma Chapter No. 52, Summersville, W.Va., of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia. Officers of New Martinsville Chapter and Martha Washington Chapter will share in the meeting.

Ministry in Song” at the Rush Run United Methodist Church near Hundred on April 19. The featured singer will be David Griffis from Kentucky. The sing will begin at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be served following the service. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Monroe County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting April 20 at 2 p.m. at the Monroe County District Library at Route 78 and Home Avenue in Woodsfield.
