Lady Eagles Drop Season Finale

After losing an OVAC championship semi final last week, Lady Eagle hurler Tory Greene was back on her game April 29 against the John Marshall Lady Monarchs. But, a first-inning JM home run proved decisive in Magnolia’s 3-0 loss in its last game of the regular season.

It also was Senior Night and the last time Greene and four other Lady Eagles would be part of the homestanding team: Kayla Brill, Cassie Neff, Alicia Hinerman and Kaeli Slampak.

The Eagles had two big opportunities to get runs on the board in the bottom of the first and second innings, but a pop out and a strike out foiled any such chances the Eagles would get the rest of the way.

In the top of the third, Greene gave the lead-off JM batter a walk, but retired the next two batters on strike outs. Just when it looked like she would get out of the inning without any further damage, a Lady Monarch blasted a two run homer. The next Lady Monarch singled, but was gunned down while trying to take third on a double.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles looked like they were going to turn things around. Cassie Neff singled and Kaeli Slampak walked, while Alicia Hinerman singled to load the bases with two outs. But, it was not to be, as Bree Carr popped out to deep right field to end the threat.

The Monarchs touched home once more in top of the fifth when the lead off batter doubled and scored on a fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the frame, Greene singled and Corinne Murdock each reached on fielder’s choices, but Brittany Batton grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning.

Hinerman started the bottom of the seventh with a single, but once again, the next three Lady Eagle batters went down in order to end the game.

Greene was charged with the loss from the mound. She struck out three, walked two, hit a batter and allowed five hits.

The Eagles stranded 10 base runners. The hitting star for the Eagles was Hinerman with two singles. Kayla Brill, Brittany Batton, Neff, Carr and Green each added a single.
